Julie Heggie

Maria in West Side Story was Julie’s first major rôle and she loved every minute of it.

Julie’s family have a long musical tradition. She is currently employed as a secondary school music teacher with South Lanarkshire which allows her to continue her love of musicals within her chosen career. Originally a pupil at Hamilton College, Julie went on to become a graduate with a B.A in Applied Music from the University of Strathclyde and has also achieved a postgraduate diploma in secondary teaching from the University of Edinburgh. She is trained by professional vocalist David Greer at Voice Works in Stirling. Her first instrument is violin, but her skills also extend to piano and guitar and from a early age she was an active member of the Lanarkshire Youth Orchestra playing in many concerts throughout the central belt including the Royal Concert Hall in Glasgow.

Julie is an active member of Hamilton Operatic and Dramatic Society and has taken part in their productions of Copacabana and Encore: The Music of Our Times.

At present she is lead singer with the popular Lanarkshire group Encore who recently played for the Prime Minister at The Labour Party conference.
